By Jeff Morrison
This coloring book is a companion to Guardians of Detroit: Architectural Sculptural in the Motor City, which is a 312-page hardcover book published by Wayne State University Press under their Painted Turtle imprint. All 22 of the drawings herein are based on photographs shot for the hardcover book. Most, but not all of the sculpture depicted here appears in the original volume. All pages are printed using high quality bright white 100 lb. acid-free paper.
Detroit is home to an amazing collection of architectural sculpture—a host of gargoyles, grotesques, and other silent guardians that watch over the city from high above its streets and sidewalks, often unnoticed or ignored by the people passing below. This coloring book documents some of these incredible features, all found in a city that began as a small frontier fort and quickly grew to become a major metropolis and industrial titan.
